Lateralus

One of my favourites bands ever is Tool, an American metal band formed in 1990, and that is one of the most influential in the actual era. Tool has released five studio albums, but Today I'm going to talk about the best of these albums created by this band, "Lateralus". Maybe you are asking why is this album so good?

One of the things that differentiate this album form others is his composition.

Tool used the concept of the Fibonacci sequence to create "Lateralus". If you didn't know Fibonacci sequence is a sequence that begins in 1 and 2 and the following numbers are defined by the sum of the two previous. Basically is this: 1,1,2,3,5,8,13, etc. This sequence is the base of all of our world, we can see it in flowers, snails, etc. So this band took this sequence and created its album. For example there are many songs that its lyrics follow this pattern like the song "Lateralus", or the percution is in such way that also follow the sequence.

Well, this is not the only thing that we can see in this album. For example while ago some fans discovered that can rearrange the order of the tracks on the album into a similarly shaped sequence. The key to the order was placing track 13 in the middle and arranging the other tracks in additive pairs on either side. The songs  are said to match up with each other in a more sensible way, and makes for the “proper” order.

Of course not only that mathematical things make this album so great. Also its innovation, for example, drummer Danny Carey sampled himself breathing through a tube to simulate the chanting of Buddhist monks fo "Parabol", and banged piano strings for samples on "Reflection".

Well, I could keep talking about this phenomenal album, but I think that is better that you listen it to discover it. See you next blog, bye.

Chemistry and Pharmacy

Hi readers, today I'm going to talk about a very special career to me. If  you are new in my blog and didn't read my older posts, let me tell you that I study Chemistry and Pharmacy at the University of Chile. Maybe you are wondering why I chose this career. W
ell, the truth is that only I'm doing it for the money... I'm just kidding, although it is true that this profession is well paid, but is not the only good thing that made me chose it.

First I can say that since I was a kid I like sciences, also there were TV shows and movies that made me love the chemistry, like Breaking Bad. So in this way I was entering in this new world of Chemistry and Pharmacy.

Chemistry and Pharmacy is a very important career that is dedicated to the health area, in general. Is due of that there are many options to choose to work. A pharmacist can work in a clinic or hospital participating in schedules for the correct use of drugs in certain patients, pharmacovigilance (the surveillance of the drugs that are distributed in the clinic or hospital), and handle toxicological situations. Also, a pharmacist can work in pharmaceutical or cosmetic laboratories, investigating new drugs or regulating the develop of medicaments. Well there are more works that a pharmacist can perform, but there are so many. In fact this profession has an employability of 97.7% first year.

So, money and employability are important things to consider to take a profession. But especially that you love the career.

Well, to finalise, I will say that whatever you choose how career, don't choose Chemistry and Pharmacy, so I don't have to compete with you. It's a joke if you are interested come and join us.

The country of dreams

Hi friends, I came back to this blog, after a while. I took a short vacation to relax. But, anyways, today I'm going to talk you about the country I would like to visit.

Well, since I have memory France has been a really insteresting contry to me. Always I have liked its culture, architecture, and its beauty in general. I have seen France in movies and books. Also I have friends that have visited this country and have talked to me a lot of it, so thanks of that things my curiosity have been grown up, making me dream with someday visiting this beautiful contry.

The things that I know of France is that it's a country located in Europe and its capital is Paris, the "city of lights". French food is one of the most important of the world. Through the history, France has been a country dedicated to arts.  The arts have been very important in this country, for example there is one of the most famous museums dedicated to that, the Louvre. Its architecture, also is impressing, one of the most famous in the world is the Eiffel Tower, located in Paris. And finally, its geography, having the French alps or lavender fields in Provenza, for example.

If someday I go there, I would like to visit the most possible places, starting with Paris, visiting the most famous places, like the Louvre, Eiffel tower, the Arc de Triomphe and the Notre-Dame
. Then visit other cities like Versailles, Lyon and Marseille.

I would like to live in this amazing country and learn a lot of this beautiful country, I don't think that I can someday cost it, but who knows...

Last blog, my dear friends

At the beginning of the year, when I started these blogs, I didn't was so sure that I would be capable of make a decent text to read. I always have thought I'm a really bad writer, so I never had written so much. Until this semester. All Fridays we wrote about a topic. Pets, mental diseases, films, technology. All super interesting topics that helped to me to want write, although sometimes it cost to me to think what write, when I didn't know very much about certain topics. Creating blogs every Friday was an excellent form of improve my English and, obviously, my writing skills. But also it helped me to activate my creativity, and motivated me to do the work of investigating about the topics I had to write about. There may be people that think that is a boring activity (actually I thought it too, before to start) but the work of create a new blog continually, has been a one of the things that I have most enjoyed in this semester. These blogs allowed to me to discover something that I never expected, I really like and enjoy writing. So  I hope to keep writing in this blog or anywhere, but try to always do better.Writing blogs allowed to me have fun, discover new things, learn a lot, meet nice people and even rediscover my past. Now I'm writing this with a smile on my face, hoping that this is not the last time I write. I can only say thank to all of you readers and teacher for give me the opportunity of write. It was a beautiful experience. Good bye to all of you, keep writing and reading, my dear friends.

Schizophrenia, a misunderstood disorder

Our brains are a very important part of our lives, they are very complex organs that can make a variety of functions since regulating the processes of our bodies until allowing us to think. But, how all our body, this is not a perfect organ. Currently, there's a lot of mental diseases and disorders, caused by chemical alterations in it that are not supposed to be. Today I'm going to talk about one of the most known disorders and at the same time, most misunderstood. Schizophrenia.

Schizophrenia is a chronic brain disorder characterized by abnormal behaviour, strange speech, and a decreased ability to understand reality. The causes are not fully known yet. But is demonstrated that exist a genetic factor that causes the disorder, although is not the only one that causes it, in the majority of patients, there's a lot of possible external factors that may unleash it, some are the abuse of drugs like cocaine or psychedelics, or vital stressful situations that mark the life of that person.

In this disorder, there's a lot of symptoms that a person may have. The most important are delirium, that consists of false beliefs that the person firmly hold based on some details of reality that misinterprets, hallucinations, where the person see, hear or feel things that he lives how real, but they are not, and negative alterations in thoughts, affectivity, behaviour and cognition.

Schizophrenia appears equally in men and women. But is more frequent in men than women, and tends to appear later in women in a milder way than men. Generally, it appears in the teenage or first years of adultivity, but it may start later in life.

The worldwide prevalence of this disorder is around 1% of the population with few variations between countries. But the prevalence of life in developing countries.

Although it is a complex disorder, it has treatment. Antipsychotic medications are the most effective treatment for schizophrenia. They change the balance of chemicals in the brain and can help control symptoms. The problem is that schizophrenia is a chronic disease and most people who suffer it need to be on antipsychotic medication for life.

To end this blog, I'm gonna tell you why I chose this disorder. I think that is important to know about this kind of disorders, to break the stigmatization. I think that if we know better this disease, we can improve the lives of humanity.

The Green Subjects

The internal machinery of life, the chemistry of the parts,
is something beautiful. All life is interconnected with the rest of life.
- Richard P. Feynman

Hello fans, today I'm going to talk about my favourite subject of life. Well, I always have been a passionate of the discovering of the world and its secrets, so that, not it's strange that in my life I had acquired a liking for the science subjects, especially, for biology and chemistry.

I have luck of have been in a school that developed very well these subjects. Of course we had a lot of theoretical practises, but also, regularly, we had practical works in the labs of school. In biology, once, we see a real brain, actually we worked with it, and we opened it and studied it, I loved it so much. In my university, occurs the same, due to I study a scientific career.

I like that in these subjects there's a lot of available information, and despite this, it isn't enough, because only we know a small part of the behaviour of universe and there's a lot to discover. For this reason is that I began to like the sciences. I like how science open to you the ability of know and discover the world, giving to you the all the possible knowledge and teaching to you how to discover.

Well, although, I know that it's very important the theoretical knowledge of a science to begin to work in it, I really prefer the practical works in labs. But, currently, I course the first year, so the most of activities are most theoretical than practical, but I know that is because is important to get the knowledge first and work after.

In spite I said before that I liked biology and chemistry, today I prefer the last one, maybe because, I find more interesting to study the matter than the study of organisms. For this is that I study chemistry and pharmacy, my liking of chemistry facilitated me my choice. I think that is important that people learn about the world that surrounds them, and chemistry is a good way of knowing it because it is the base of life and the most of other sciences.

The genius behind modern era

Through the history have been a lot of people with a brilliant mind that have given their lives to the service of the science, the discovery and the develop of the society. All those people that have done important works, today, I think, deserve all the recognition of the world. Today I'm going to talk you about one of the most important people in the current era The person that have develop a lot of companies to try the change of the society to a better one. This is Elon Musk.

Elon Musk is a technology entrepreneur, investor, and engineer born on June 28, 1971, in Pretoria, Transvaal, South Africa. Musk moved to Canada when he was 17 to attend Queen's University. He transferred to the University of Pennsylvania two years later, where he received an economics degree from the Wharton School and a degree in physics from the College of Arts and Sciences. He began a PhD in applied physics and material sciences at Stanford University in 1995 but dropped out after two days to pursue an entrepreneurial career. Since here he starts his career to the develop of big companies. The main companies that he have founded are "Tesla Motors" that manufactures electric vehicles, "Space X" a private aerospace manufacturer and space transportation services company, and the most important, I think, "PayPal" a company operating a worldwide online payments system that supports online money transfers and serves as an electronic alternative to traditional paper methods.

I admire Elon Musk because he is a real genius, having an economics degree and another in physics, and because he has been a great visionary, creating companies like "Space X", that today help agencies like NASA to the hard work of the aeronautical and aerospace research, or "PayPal" that offered a new way of how to manage the money in a fast and safe way. But above all because for his perseverance and his desire to create a better world.
